A Home and Education for Children in Nepal
The REPA school is located in Pharping in Nepal, about 25 km from the capital Kathmandu and is situated on a hill with a fresh green environment and a view of the Pharping area.
The REPA School aims to provide children with a home and an education that they would otherwise not be able to receive. The REPA Schools are funded entirely by donations and offer both modern and traditional Buddhist education.
When it started, the school had 13 students, which quickly grew to 30. Currently, the school has about 100 young monks. At the moment there are teaching programme available for grades 1–8. The plan for the future is to cover all grades from 1-12.
Education at REPA School: A Holistic Approach
The education offered integrates regular academic studies with spiritual and moral teachings.
Little monks at the monastery study subjects like mathematics, science, history, and English, just like their peers in standard schools. However, their education is enriched with Buddhist philosophy, meditation, and moral values, fostering intellectual growth with spiritual and emotional development. This unique blend of academic and spiritual education is rooted in the monastery’s belief that true learning encompasses the heart, mind, and soul. Unlike conventional schools, the monastery emphasizes discipline, compassion, and mindfulness, ensuring that students grow into well-rounded individuals who contribute positively to society.

Many of the young monks describe their time at the monastery as a dream come true.
One monk shares, “Before coming here, I could only imagine going to school. Now, I am learning every day, and I feel happy and hopeful.”
Another monk reflects, “The monastery has taught me not just to read and write, but also to be kind and mindful. I want to use what I learn to help others.”
